What We Do

Our Mission

To defend the rights of students, support activism and community engagement, foster collaboration between student groups and between schools, and keep those in power accountable for their actions within our system of education.

School Meetings

Every week (or every other week), all CSSU members or interested students hold a meeting at their school, during which they will discuss matters of importance to the student body and its various clubs, teams, or other groups. These meetings are to be a place for open discussion, dissent, debate, and planning for future action. Here, students can learn about how to better assist one another and work towards a better version of their school.

Union Activities

After careful planning, every level and branch of the CSSU is defined by the activities that organize and partake upon in order to defend the interests of the collective students they represent. These activities can be social events, fundraising efforts, public announcements, negotiations with administrators, or even various forms of protest when discussion fails. Essentially, whatever the union members and/or representatives believe will improve their fellow students' experience in secondary school while being as respectful as possible can be a Union activity.

Representatives & Summits

Every school's branch of the CSSU is to elect a school representative to lead the school and speak on its behalf. Every school representative within a district will meet once every month to discuss issues of importance and orchestrate further action. Here, district representatives will be elected, all of which will attend a tri-annual summit in Ottawa of all CSSU district representatives. This group will speak for every student of every unionized school in Canada.
